Day 1: Welcome to India and Kochi!
On arrival at the Kochi Airport, you will be met by your Travel Director and transferred to your hotel. The rest of the day is yours to explore Kochi (or Cochin), which is known for its 'Queen of the Arabian Sea' due to its fine natural harbour. It is a city made of islands connected to Ernakulam on the mainland by bridges and ferries. Experience the eclecticism of Kerala, while you explore Cochin’s vibrant streets, which were once frequented by seafaring traders from around the world. Tonight a welcome dinner is served at the hotel.
Day 2: Highlights of Kochi
After an early morning yoga session at the hotel, we embark on a sightseeing tour. We’ll visit the Jewish Synagogue (1568) - the oldest synagogue in the commonwealth – and the ancient Mattancherry (Dutch) Palace built by the Portuguese in 1557. We’ll also see St. Francis Church, the oldest European built church in India, and the amazing Chinese fishing nets operating on principles of physics, far advanced for their times. These unique fishing nets are the only ones of its kind in India. It is believed that traders from the court of the Chinese ruler, Kublai Khan, introduced these nets to the area. This evening, enjoy a special dance form of Kerala at the Kathakali Dance Centre.
Day 3: Spices of Periyar
This morning we drive to Periyar where we will check into our hotel. In the evening we’ll enjoy a boat cruise on Lake Periyar to see regional wildlife and on the way back you’ll have the chance to visit a spice market and learn about the cultivation of various spices from Kerala, one of the largest spice regions in central Europe.
Day 4: Traditional houseboat to Alleppey
This morning we transfer to the jetty for a cruise on a traditional houseboat, which will take us through narrow lakes and canals towards Alleppey. The backwaters of Kerala comprise of a network of 1500kms of canals, both manmade and natural. Kettuvalloms or Houseboats (rice boats) were used in the early days for the transport of goods from isolated interior villages to various towns. With the advent of roads, bridges and ferry services, Kettuvalloms gradually became scarce. Luckily for us, we still have the chance to experience this lovely form of transport.
Day 5-9: Carnoustie Ayurveda and Wellness Resort
After a sumptuous breakfast on board, we disembark and transfer to the award-winning luxury Carnoustie Ayurveda & Wellness Resort where you will be based for the next few nights. Your stay includes a consultation with a doctor and a Signature Ayurveda package tailored specifically to you. Indulge in a range of ancient Ayurveda & Yoga practices. Your comprehensive multiday package includes an Ayurvedic Massage, which is customised to your needs. You’ll also be treated to restorative Shirodhara therapy, which involved liquids being poured over the ‘third eye’, Ksheera Dhara therapy, which assists with headaches, insomnia and mental tensions, and body scrubs. You can look forward to reflexology, guided yoga, meditation and purification rituals. Enjoy delicious Ayurvedic vegetarian meals throughout your stay.
